Unfortunately, Microsoft Research AutoCollage 2008 is no longer available for purchase or download. However, there are alternative collage-making software available online.
It depends on the way the software has been purchased in the first place. For example, if the software was acquired digitally, search your email for confirmation and license key then all you have to do is to download the software or install it from CD-ROM and use that key to register it.
Look on the CD-ROM's sleeve for the serial number to activate it. I also don't think that Microsoft still provides support to Microsoft Research AutoCollage 2008.
I downloaded a trial version of Microsoft Research Auto Collage 2008 and love the program, but when I went to purchase it I am told it is no longer supported. Is there another program which is similar that I could try with a view to purchasing it?

There are plenty of applications available for this auto-collage process. You can create collage images with almost any image editor released nowadays. For example, Picasa is a great way to create collage images with the help of the built-in features. You can download a copy of the applicationfrom the application's page at Software Informer.
The only solution is to check if the used images of the collage have their Date Modified string set into the future. It has been reported that this setting for the images makes the application stop immediately. Right click the file in Windows Explorer and check the Date Modified. If it's set to future, open the file in a photo editor, then save it back without modifying.
After I hit Create, the collage goes black. What can I do?

You receive this error, because the software is not compatible with your system. In order to run the program, your computer needs to meet the minimum system requirements. If the requirements are fulfilled, uninstall the program and reinstall it using the serial key received when you purchased the application. Also, if you have a 64-bit computer, you need to run the software using the Compatibility Mode. Right click on the program icon and go to Properties > Compatibility tab. Check the Run this program in compatibility mode for box and select Windows XP or a compatible operating system from the drop-down list. Click Apply and then OK. If you still need assistance, check the AutoCollage 2008 Help section.
According to the official information, the software is still available for downloading from the Microsoft website. Visit the website and click on the download button then click on the Microsoft Store link to reach the store from where you can buy the application.
